DigiPak Effects

FEEDBACK

My partner and I have made a variety of different effect ideas on our final Digipak. After editing these different album cover, we have shown these to our media class and gained feedback. Most of the people in the class preferred the last edits, as it suits our music genre and looks very professional. From this feedback, my partner and I have decided to use this one for our final album cover.

DigiPak Fonts

After many research on different fonts that can be used in our Digipak. We have came across some fonts we liked and then started comparing these different fonts and asking feedback from different target audiences to see which ones they liked the most. As we wanted to have all our products to have some sort of relationship, me and my partner have chosen  the first font as it appeals to us the most.

DigiPak Ideas -

After using our font, we have started to put the font on different places on the album cover, to see which has the most effective look. After two drafts of different ideas, we have concluded to use the font in the left hand side of the picture in the middle as it stands out more. We have put the artist name in black and the album name in red, as it is easier for the audiences to figure out which is what.

We have taken a Photoshoot of both of the artists featuring in our music video, as we can use these images to promote the music video on social networking sites to get a wider range of audiences. It also provides the audiences with a rough idea on what type of music video it will be.

Conventions of music videos dependent on genre

I have improved my understanding on different genres of music video by researching different music genres. There are many different conventions for music videos depending on the genre, which means that music videos tend to fit the genre of the music.  I have looked through different music videos from different genres, and each genre tends to follow some kind of rules. I have looked through different music videos and this is what I have found.

R&B
In this genre of the music videos there is usually many flashing lights, and the locations involve the artist performing in a rich mansion, night clubs etc. The clothing of the artist is mostly expensive which tends to attract the audiences and advertises these clothing’s. There are usually dancers present, to reflect the sound of the genre. The narrative of this music video genre usually follows the lyrics of the song. Most video of this type of genre tend to have revealing women which indicates wealth of the artists.

Pop
In this genre of the music video it is mainly performance based, which has the singers/band lip syncing throughout the song. The clothing in the pop genre is mainly tends to have bright clothing to grab the viewers attention.  The performance is also sometimes based on the narrative story which reflects back to the meaning of the lyrics.

Indie

In this genre of the music video we have a variety of different conventions; it is all mostly dependent on the lyrics. This genre of music videos has many different types of music videos, they can be like a performance based act, or narrative with the lyrics or sometimes the artists doesn’t even appear in the music videos.
Rock

In this genre of music videos we have a dark atmosphere which is mainly performance based. The music video is mainly a band playing the song, with the vocalist in the middle of the stage. As the music is quite loud and dark this makes the narrative dark and scary. The performers are usually dressed in completely black clothing appearing as a stereotypical performer with many piercings with dark make up. The music video have many close ups of the artists and the music equipments.

Chosen Location

We have decided to change our locations from central London to harrow leisure centre skate place, as this location seems to fit the genre of the music. At this location we had many different graffiti places which go well with the rap. These shots on camera looked very effective and when colour corrected with the graffiti walls, we made it stand out more which is more attractive to the audience. Also this location was convenient for both me and my partner as it was local. Another benefit from using this location is that there were many different stake ramps which allowed us to take different camera shots from many high and low angles.
